Frequently Asked Questions

How does pre-order work?
All Monessa Joan pieces are made to order. When you place your order, your garment is carefully produced in Ireland and delivered within 3 - 4 weeks. This ensures minimal waste and thoughtful production.
Why don't you hold stock?
We believe in creating only what’s needed. By producing to order, we avoid overproduction, support sustainability, and reduce unnecessary waste in fashion. From time to time, we may carry a limited amount of stock pieces, so if you need something in a hurry please contact us to ask about availability.
We believe the world doesn't need more clothing — it needs more considered design.
At Monessa Joan, every piece is made to order through our pre-order model, ensuring we never overproduce or create unnecessary waste. By crafting only what’s truly wanted, we honour both the planet and the process — and give each garment the purpose it deserves.
This approach supports slower, more mindful fashion. It allows us to focus on quality, sustainability, and timeless design, rather than chasing trends or stocking surplus.
How do I choose the right size?
Refer to our size guide for each product. If you're still unsure, we're happy to assist you personally. Many of our garments feature flexible fits and fluid silhouettes. But if you have a specific concern around whether a certain style will suit a particular body shape please reach out. Getting the right fit is my passion. If you have specific questions about fit (especially for fuller busts/hips or petite/tall heights), we’re happy to advise before you order.
Are your garments actually made in Ireland?
Yes. Every Monessa Joan piece is proudly designed and made in Ireland in collaboration with a local manufacturing studio in Co. Wexford. Keeping things local is important to us.
Can I wash your items, or are they dry clean only?
All items can be machine washed at 30° degrees Celsius. Do not use a high spin, and do not tumble dry. Use a cool iron setting. I would be careful with the Cara Cinch Belt in the machine and would simply handwash the fabric part of the belt. Each item can also be dry cleaned on a P cycle should you prefer.
Are your products sustainable?
Absolutely. Our approach includes pre-order production, local small-batch manufacturing, and modular design to encourage repeat wear and reduce waste. The whole design ethos from the beginning has been built around ensuring your occasion wear pieces get a lot more than one or two wears.
Can I purchase the detachable elements separately?
Yes. Additional or replacement sleeves, belts, or styling elements can be purchased to refresh your dress for a new occasion. For example, you can purchase the Eibhlinn Dress with Aobh Sleeves and also purchase the Eala Sleeves as a separate product. Effectively you would then have three dresses, short sleeve, long sleeve, and sleeveless. Genius! You can also purchase the sleeves in a different colour to your dress, just an idea! and next year when we introduce a new sleeve design, it will work on your original dress from this year.
What is Triacetate, I have never heard of that fabric?
Our stunning satin backed crepe fabric is made up of 80% Triacetate and 20% Polyester. Triacetate is a semi synthetic fabric made from the naturally based fibre wood pulp. It is known for its beautiful shine, luxurious feel, wonderful drape and impressive durability. When we went sourcing fabrics, nothing else compared to this. We fell in love with the feel and the drape, and were delighted to learn about its superior shape retention, excellent breathability and resistance to shrinkage.
Where can I try on your pieces, or are they only available online?
We are very proud to be stocked in four fabulous boutiques around the
country. Please see our stockist page here. Please bear in mind that the shops
do not carry the full range of styles, colours, or sizes, so always check with
them before you make a special trip. Alternatively, you can purchase online
directly from us. We may run appointment only showcases from time to time, so
do let us know if that is something you would be interested in. We get it,
buying online can be difficult, but we are here to help with any questions you
may have.
What if the dress doesn't suit me when it arrives?
We accept returns within 14 days of delivery on unworn, undamaged items. Please see our full return policy for details.
