Us Irish, we’re nothing if not optimistic! Particularly when it comes to the weather.

There’s always that hopeful sense that the weather will behave. Sometimes it does. Sometimes it absolutely does not. Sunshine at noon can turn into torrential rain by 3pm, even in July and a marquee that felt airy in the afternoon is suddenly freezing cold at night.

Fabric Matters More Than You Think

The biggest mistake I see with summer occasion wear is assuming “summer” means wearing something light.

In Ireland, that rarely works.

A fabric that’s too flimsy can lose its shape by late afternoon. It can crease during the ceremony. It can cling in ways that don’t feel polished.

Structure is still important — but not stiffness.

Soft tailoring, fluid lines, and luxurious fabrics that move gently with the body tend to feel far more modern. Our satin-backed crepe fabric is what I describe as an all year round fabric. We don’t have summer and winter fabrics, we only need to have one fabric because it is perfection. It feels cool on the body when you first put it on, but instantly feels like a second skin.

Summer dressing isn’t about less fabric.

It’s about the right fabric.

Consider the Full Day, Not Just the Ceremony

Irish weddings are rarely brief.

You’ll move from ceremony to drinks reception to dinner and dancing. You’ll be indoors and outdoors. Sitting, standing, walking across gravel, perhaps grass.

You need something that is elegant, balanced, and easy to move in.

The key is ease. Nothing that restricts. Nothing that demands constant adjustment.

When you feel comfortable, you look composed.

Colour in Irish Summer Light

Summer light in Ireland has a softness to it.

Navy can feel unexpectedly fresh when paired with lighter accessories. Duck egg carries beautifully in daylight. Cerise feels confident without being overpowering. Lime, when handled with restraint, can feel luminous rather than bold. Taupe offers a quieter kind of elegance, allowing fabric and movement to take the lead. Royal blue brings clarity and presence, vivid yet refined when kept simple in silhouette.

It’s less about brightness, more about clarity.

In brighter months, colour doesn’t need to shout.

It simply needs to feel intentional.

Avoid Overcomplicating It

There’s sometimes pressure around summer weddings to look effortless.

But effortlessness usually comes from clarity.

A clean silhouette. A luxurious fabric. A colour that feels like you.

That’s enough.

And if you choose something you can imagine wearing again — to another wedding, a formal dinner, or a milestone celebration — it will feel even more powerful.
